Post CTF and Exam patches causing Database time outs?

Hi guys, strange one

 

Last week on a Tuesday I applied 2 patches, one for exam duplicated records and one for the CTF workstation upgrade

 

Patch 6931

Consolidated Workstation Patch 1 - CTF

 

Things went ok the next morning

 

 

So Thursday I went and applied

 

Patch 20496 exam patch(then ran Validate membership)

Patch 24213 Clean up after the CTF patch

 

This week beginning Monday I started getting SIMS connection errors amongst users (having to restart the SQL server services to get people back in)

 

it has been happening daily and I'm getting a bit concerned it's broken something.

 

So far I have increased to RAM pool for SQL from 8Gb to 9.5Gb (users had time outs this afternoon - but rectified with SQL service restart for now - It's a VM with 4 vCPUs and 18Gb RAM

 

Any ideas? Captia has been real slow lately with responses so I haven't much confidence I get much support

 

We do run inTouch here so the DB is bigger than most but none of these connectivity issues happened until patch 20496 and 24213

 

I'm thinking the next step is to run the inTouch clean up patch then the reindexing patch - fab time to spend my weekend!

Happened again but member of staff recorded the error:

 

1142-9935-3500 Object reference not set to an instance of an object. :SystemNullReferenceException.

 

Restarted the SQL server service she logged back in straight away

 

Looking at the pattern though folks who are already in SIMS can function and search fine.

 

it's when you log in to a new instance it fell over with that error above...
