Visual Impairment

Not really an educational software specific query but wasn't sure where else to post. I'm looking for some advice as to how others may deal with visual impairment requirements for students such as an enlarged applications, mouse cursor, desktop etc.

 

It seems difficult to implement this for one student who may be using different PCs all the time and won't have access to change any settings.

We get extra funding from the LEA for that, in one case we've purchased a laptop for the student to use along with a secondary USB/displayport clip-on screen where he can access work sent to him via email. Unrestrictred personalisation settings and what-not too to allow for the customisations needed.

We Also provide our VI pupils with laptops, however the extortionate costs of software (Screen reader / Magnifier) is proving problematic with our ever decreasing budgets

Along these lines, what do people do about them seeing the whiteboard? In primary schools, I have used VNC in view only mode from the child's device to the teacher's computer, but in high schools the teacher usually has their email and SIMS .net open which the primaries I've done it in don't use. Obviously the child can't see these. Any suggestions?

We use join.me app in some schools. Allows staff to share their screen and then pause for any email checking etc. Some of our pupils are given Ipads so can pinch and zoom etc to read the text. Funding is an issue and most of the solutions I come up with have no funding.
