Ultra-short throw projectors

Does anyone have a make/model for the really extra-ultra-short throw projectors? The ones screwed to the wall, not on a short arm.

 

Google-fu is failing...

 

Casio's web presence is shocking; no clue as to how their's mount!

Not necessarily Casio, I was just commenting on how poor their images are on the web.

Epson's current model is the EB-440W IIRC. We had a mixture of Epsons & Hitachis previously and the Epsons were fantastic.

The Hitachi models are quite decent too and a fair bit cheaper than Epson. I think CP-AX2503 is one of the current Hitachi models.

Are you looking to replace projectors or are you trying to mount an existing one?

If you are buying new ones try to avoid the ones with the self opening door, the motor is easy to break and then you will have all sorts of fun trying to make it work.

In one room we have a ridiculous long boom with a standard projector on it, and due to the ceiling height it shines right in the teachers eyes. Standard ceiling mount out due to construction of said ceiling. (Please don't ask!)

 

Trying to do this without major fiddling with lights, so the shortish boom mount don't help much.

If you are looking for a low cost fix, you could go for a refurbished UST projector and mount. We did this with a couple of our old boards, as we were planning to replace them with Interactive screens at a later date and didn't want to spend a fortune on replacement projectors, only to take them back down 12 months later and replace with new screens.

Cost isn't really the issue (within reason), but getting lights moved is to be avoided if possible.

If cost is not a major factor, I would consider taking the plunge and replacing the existing board with an interactive screen, rather than persisting with projector & board setup. The screen will take up the space that your existing board takes and there is no need to worry about the possibility of having to move any lighting etc. There are no lamp replacements and it's going to be under warranty for 5 years if you go for the right screen, so if anything goes wrong with it, it's somebody elses problem.

+1 for going to screens. Contrast is so much better, easier to manage, no light shining in eyes etc. Well worth consideration.

Did you find a solution? The same question has just come up here - we have a nice new stage area with a low ceiling, adding a projector to the lighting bar to project on to the back wall of the stage is going to be tricky as the projector body will wind up in the line-of-sight to the back wall (and, also, neatly at head-height). We could consider a video wall made from multiple screens, although that might get a bit pricy.

We're going to try the NEC that we have with the longer than desirable arm. One of the board lights being taken out to accommodate it.

 

Flat screen is out as the room is limited for whiteboard space, the projector will be displayed on a semi-matt board. Seems OK from a trial.

If an arm isn't an issue then the Epson ones are pretty good. Can get a photo of a standard setup later if you want?

How much bounce do you get on that??

It is mounted on a solid wall. No bounce.

 

The arm is part of the issue; but the ceiling is quite low so the projector is pretty much in your face even sitting at the desk. I'm putting the short throw up this afternoon.

Got other teachers now wanting them in their rooms. They never liked the 65" LCDs we were trying to put in and we couldn't afford the 75"

I've used similar and no issues to report. Epson support for warranty issues were also pretty good too!
