Chromecast in classroom issue

Hello all, Not sure where I should put this question as it covers network, wireless and hardware but here goes...

 

We just rolled out over 60 Chromecasts around our school to improve wireless projecting. Our tests were very successful however now we have many of them things are not going well. Noticeable lag and frequent drop outs are common place around the site.

I know there is little chance of a magic fix but wondered if anyone knows a way to improve this. Its on its own VLAN but wondered if anyone has any experience of getting these to work in bulk correctly? I could make a separate 5Ghz SSID or look into QoS but these are all large tasks and wanted to see if there was first hand experience before I start pouring time into this.

Did you test all 60 in use at once? USB ethernet adaptors is probably the solution

Have you tried Cast for Education? No extra physical hardware needed and teachers can set the permissions easily. Chromecasts are really a consumer product.

I'm not sure this would help much. The constant broadcast of all them devices will probably the biggest issue.

 

You might be able to configure your AP to stop passing broadcast down the uplink and contain it to that AP. However it will cause problems if your Chromebook is connected to one device the Chromecast connected to another.

Right, mDNS uses multicast, which is meh on wifi

Out of interest what Chromebooks are you using to cast and which wireless network manufacturer?
