SIMS - Client machines are not connecting to DMS on port 8080 or any other port

Hi

We have recently had SIMS installed on our servers and it seems to be working fine when using functions inside SIMS. The registers are a bit slow to load, but that is a separate issue.

We can not use anything where SIMS on a client machine needs to connect to the DMS server.

SIMS CAN link to the DMS server from the server itself.

SIMS CANNOT link to the DMS server from client machines.

I have discussed this with SIMS tech support and we initially thought it was a firewall issue. We have taken down all the firewalls and we are still unable to connect to the DMS from the client machine. (Telnet also does not work from a client machine - even with the firewall down). It seems all ports are blocked!!!

We checked the DNS and we can resolve the server name. However, using the IP address of the server in SIMS to check the DMS server connection does not work!!

SIMS tech support have said its a network issue and left it at that because SIMS can connect to the DMS on the server itself.

Can anyone give me any pointers on what else I should look at or investigate? If anyone has a solution that would be great.

Thank you in advance

Hi

Thank for both the replies, I tried both things and neither worked.

However, the issue has been resolved. We have something called 'Discover' a piece if software installed via SOLUS 3 which was not installed on any of the clients. Once this was installed it all started working!!! - Perhaps this is something very trivial that should have been done - SIMS technical people actually installed SIMS on our servers, so I had no clue. It was just a guess that worked.

I have had atleast SIMS tech support log into our servers several times, they never checked if Discover was insatlled on the clients.

Thanks again for the prompt replies.

Discover is entirely optional and should not be the magic bullet to fix something like this.

I've only deployed Discover to a handful of machines and the rest talk to SIMS and DMS fine.

Did SOLUS see all your clients fine?

On review I was told that Discover is optional. And I would assume SIMS should connect to the DMS directly, but it doesn't.

Yes SOLUS 3 does see all the machines, I use it deploy SIMS updates and Discover. They are picked up from AD.

I am getting back onto SIMS tech support to work out why it works when Discover is installed.

Thanks for pointing this out.
