We have just put in a brand new Aruba network and having issues with our windows 7 machines. They are really slow logging in and get stuck on the please wait for the user profile service. The windows 10 machines don’t have this problem. In the event viewer I get the warning the winlogon notification subscriber took XXX seconds.

Are the machines identical apart from W7 vs W10?

Nope the windows 10 are brand new HP machines and the windows 7 ones are about 10 year old stone machines. Thought it was group policy so moved one into a group with bare bones gp settings and still the same.

I'd probably recommend a Process Monitor boot trace to see precisely where the delays are. They can be intimidating to sift through, so feel free to post it here and we'll have a look if you need :)

Years ago i had some laptops (think it was the little eeeeepc netbooks) where they worked fine with xp on my old aruba wifi. Upgraded to win 7 and the logons were unusable talking 5-10mins+ Got a ruckus AP on trial and connected them up to that and it logged in normally in 30 secs. I tried updating drivers and firmware on the laptops but it had no change.

My old aruba wifi was due for replacement as it was nearly 8/9 years old and only b/g at the time. So went ruckus throughout and never looked back.

Put it down to some sort of conflict between bad drivers and the AP's.

Have you got a usb wifi dongle you could put on one of the win 7 devices to try?
