Check the event log to see if there are any extra details.

I am not sure if PacketFence is hyper-v compatible (although it should get further than that) but I would definitely put linux drivers for hyper-v on it after otherwise you will get a lot of issues.

Packetfence is something though you would ideally put on hardware (an older pc) as it can be very heavy on the emulation for network packets but it was a few years ago when I looked at it.

Hi Thanks for your reply. packetfence is hyper v compatible. their guide says.

"it consists of a fully installed preconfigured version of packetfence distributed as a virtual appliance. It ca be deployed on VMware ESX/ESXI, Microsoft Hyper V and other products"

Does the physical machine need a physical reboot after installing any VM's?. Sorry im new to VM installations.

The even log shows

i dont have the option to select generation.

It's on the following screen after you have entered the name for the VM.

Edit. Are you using Windows Server 2008 R2? If so, it doesn't support gen 2 VMs so you can ignore my previous question. :)

Hi thanks. It is a 2008 R2. I just rebooted the physical machine and now its getting past the error message but i dont know what its doing now. The packetfence guide also states that yo can browse to its IP to load the web GUI. But i have not set an IP for packetfence also i cannot see my router giving it an IP.Untitled.png
