  1. Hi I have installed packetfence using the ZEN preconfigured version on VMware. Can anyone tell me what i need to configure as i don't think i need to configure everything that is shown on the pdf user guide. Let me explain what i am trying to achieve. I have a number of Draytek 2862Ln model firewall routers in various shops up and down the country. I want to configure a guest wifi on all those routers. the Draytek Routers has an option for "captive portal" and "MAC authentication". The idea is if a customer goes to 1 shop and connects to the guest wifi on the draytek they will see a splash screen asking them to login using facebook or google and then they will have internet access. If they then went to another shop they would simply connect to the guest wifi and have internet access they would not need to enter their facebook or google details again as their MAC address of their wireless client will have been captured by Packetfence when they previously connected at the other shop. I have attached screenshots of the Draytek Web GUI and packetfence. I think i just need to enter the packet fence server IP and thats it. The problem is what do i need to configure on Packetfence GUI.? captive portal ? or radius? or both? Thanks in advance. Hiran
  2. Hi I have managed to install packetfence on oracle virtual box. When i run it it load up to a login prompt i have entered the login username and password as it shows on the setup guide but it keeps coming up with error with usernamne or password. Also it says i should browse to it IP in order to configure, but when i do i get "page cannot displayed" im not sure why the web GUI is not loading. Thanks
  3. Hi I have a VM on Hyper V. I installed a ZEN version of packetfence which is all pre configured. When i go and start the VM. I get this message. It has been a while and im not sure if the OS is doing something or there is a problem. Can anyone help. Thanks. error message is below
  4. Hi thanks. It is a 2008 R2. I just rebooted the physical machine and now its getting past the error message but i dont know what its doing now. The packetfence guide also states that yo can browse to its IP to load the web GUI. But i have not set an IP for packetfence also i cannot see my router giving it an IP.
  5. i dont have the option to select generation.
  6. Hi im not sure where to find that. i have Hyper-V ManagerMicrosoft CorporationVersion: 6.1.7601.17514
  7. Hi Thanks for your reply. packetfence is hyper v compatible. their guide says. "it consists of a fully installed preconfigured version of packetfence distributed as a virtual appliance. It ca be deployed on VMware ESX/ESXI, Microsoft Hyper V and other products" Does the physical machine need a physical reboot after installing any VM's?. Sorry im new to VM installations. The even log shows The description for Event ID 12010 from source Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-Worker cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: packetfenceAB21A0F3-2390-42E1-AF01-B79F0084DFD8Microsoft Emulated IDE Controller%%21479424320x80070020{83F8638B-8DCA-4152-9EDA-2CA8B33039B4}The locale specific resource for the desired message is not present
  8. Hi I have downloed a ZEN packetfence package and am trying to load it on a Hyper V VM, i converted the vmdk to vhd and then created a virtual machine and used the vhd. But when i go and start the VM i get an error message. An anyone help. this ZEN version of packetfence is supposed to pre configured so im not sure why its not running.
  9. Yes. I have attached screenshots of the Draytek web GUI. As you can see it gives an option to use an "external" auth server and authenticate using MAC address. I just dont know how to configure a Windows server to authenticate using MAC address, so that the user only need to enter their google or facebook detail once and then on any other Draytek routers their device will just connect to WiFi as the windows server will carry out the auth using the MAC address in the background.
  10. Hi I was wondering if anyone could help. I would like to configure a "windows wireless captive portal server" it does not have to be on Windows server 2012 it can be any windows server. i'll explain what i am trying to achieve. I am having a Guest Wifi on multiple Draytek Routers. The routers have an option to enter a "captive portal server IP". The idea is that when a user connects to the Guest WiFi they will have a splash screen which will ask then to login via "Google mail" or "facebook", (This splash screen is configured on the Draytek Router). Then once the user enters their google login or facebook login their device MAC address is to be passed over to the Windows server and kept. This is so if that same user was to connect to another different Draytek router and connect to its guest WiFi they will not need to login using google or facebook as that server will recognise that device by its MAC address. I am a Network specialist and have no experience in configure servers. Does anyone have a step by step guide on how i could configure this server? Thanks in advance.
