Changes to UKTV programming on Virgin TV

From Sunday all UKTV channels and programming will be replaced on Virgin TV.

We are still in discussions with UKTV but we have already invested in an extensive collection of new and high-quality programming for our customers to enjoy (depending on the TV bundle taken). More details on the programming that will be added and replaced is below.

This includes the Paramount Network in HD with shows like Suits and Designated Survivor; YourTV, a new channel which is home to Castle, Bones and Body of Proof; Love Nature, which is exclusive to Virgin TV and has some stunning nature programmes such as Africa’s Wildest Horizon’s and Great Wild Blue; IQTV, which contains some of best quiz shows like Mastermind and The Weakest Link; and numerous new box sets such as Shades of Blue, Supergirl and Madam Secretary...

Virgin Media could lose ITV programmes in long-running dispute

Virgin Media’s 4 million pay-TV customers face losing hit ITV shows including Coronation Street and Love Island as a longstanding dispute with the broadcaster comes to a head.

ITV is understood to have written to Virgin Media warning that it could remove its channels as soon as this weekend if an agreement cannot be reached.

Virgin Media and ITV have been in protracted and at times tense talks over a range of issues including the carriage of ITV, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, video-on-demand rights and guarantees of the prominence of its programming, as cable viewers increasingly watch programmes on demand from Netflix, Amazon and broadcasters’ own streaming services.

ITV threatened Virgin Media with a channel black-out last year but delayed the decision for the arrival of Carolyn McCall, who joined from easyJet in January.

To date McCall has taken a more flexible and collaborative approach in negotiations, which are understood to be at an advanced stage.

However, Virgin Media’s decision on Sunday to remove UKTV’s 10 TV channels – a mix of free-to-air and pay stations including Dave and Gold – appears to have provided an opportunity for ITV to pressure the cable operator.

I phoned up for my mom the other day when they removed the UKtv channels. Took me over 2 hours to get through and dropped the tv channels and kept the broadband and phone lines.

I got her a Youtv box, really nice piece of kit.

Happy days. We get our channels back, plus got a hell of a discount - TV & broadband for 38 a month for 12 months and a £40 one-off credit for us to buy a fire-tv stick or similar to get the on-demand stuff we'd otherwise miss from UKTV ;) And better still means we don't have to put up with crap fibre DSL internet.

I cancelled. Cancelled with virgin as there was no way I was making do with a TV service without UKTV, and signed up with Sky. Their retentions team called me the next day and put the above offer to me.

I do feel like I've conned them a little bit though; we were on a £48 a month deal due to go up to £55 end of this month, but he knocked £10 a month off confirming it'll be £38 a month for 12 months ;)

About time I pulled that stunt again myself. Good work! :)
