abillybob Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Hi All Bit of a strange issue really. I have a Windows 7 computer here which has always been working fine. Recently for some reason or another it's just been intermittently dropping network connection and then coming back online. Looking through even viewer we have found that it says "Could not be registered on 172.16.128.31. The computer with IP 172.16.130.194 would not allow the name to be claimed. NetBT." This is I've looked up the latter IP address and it's just a separate workstation that's not having any problems. The names are completely different from each other on the network so I'm a bit confused as to why this is saying it won't allow the name to be used? I have tried updating his drivers for the network adapter, moving him over to wifi which still has the same problems, everything I can think of but it just keeps dropping out. Our DHCP server is on a totally different VLAN but none of the other computer have this issue and I've checked this computer and the default gateway and IP settings all look perfect? Thanks All - I'm ripping my hair out with this one!!
PD1279 Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Hi Have you tried resetting the winsock on the computer ? netsh winsock reset Or change the computer name to something else for now and then change it back in a couple of days Regards Philip
abillybob Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 Hmm never even heard of resetting Winsock but I have given it a go and will wait and see if it's done anything.
TwistedHelixis Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Can you look up those IP's in DHCP and DNS as it might help? Also some laptops will have more than one IP, LAN & WiFi
JackCPickup Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 If 172.16.130.194 isn't the DC I'd disable the Computer Browser service on that computer. If it is the DC, restart the service.
abillybob Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 Have done fingers crossed this works! Thanks all!
