Shadow_Walker Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 I have a primary school in our trust with around 250 pupils and around 20 staff. We have at FTTC broadband connection so our upload is only around 8mb max. When a user goes on youtube for whatever reason our smoothwall goes ballistic and the upload traffic for that one user goes to around 2mb for around 30 seconds then goes back to normal then does it again. Even a simple google search seems to spike it as well and if all users do it at around the same time the internet cuts off! Any ideas?
AlanD Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 I think I'd be looking carefully at how smoothwall and the router are connected...And are you using wireless? How is that connected? Are you sure that wireless connection is not on the "wrong" side (router side) of smoothwall (which will support external filtering...). Or maybe router, both internal and external connections of smoothwall are all on the same physical cabling?

I can't really help here other than recommending you contact Smoothwall support........
Shadow_Walker Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 that is very odd. I can't really help here other than recommending you contact Smoothwall support........ The Broadband is supplied by yourselves but support have been great and set up some traffic shaping on our router to limit some upload just to mitigate it for now until smoothwall can get back to me. 1

After all the checks i have done now i think it maybe a smoothwall update which has done this. 1
