Well weren't offered the online version I only found out it on this thread but got response from PISA when I requested as I could foresee issues with the USB tests and wanted the online tested beforehand. Unsurprisingly the online version didn't work.

At least you have the information beforehand to prepare for the tests. Why the online version didn't work for us I don't know, I was more worried by the lady on the phone telling me potentially the login details we were given were being used somewhere else....

 

We did ours mid October.

 

I stubbornly refused to do USB sticks after they sent the diagnostics so made them give me online version.

 

All worked swimmingly, apart from the tests started all by themselves. I thought it was a video tutorial of the test, but couldn't work out how to get back to login screen - nope, turns out another school was taking their tests half an hour before us and HAD been given the same AWS credentials so we were watching students taking their tests live!

 

Quick call to one of the named people on the invigilators support documentation and we had new credentials within about 10 minutes.

Hi. I know you guys did this a few years back now, but we've just been told we've got to it using the AWS method.

 

The AWS method requires 1000s of AWS IP ranges to be allowed through our firewall, which in itself is risky, but it hasn't worked for us. They now say they may bring in the USBs. I'm not really keen on this highly unorganized test.

 

How did you guys/gals get it working over AWS?

I don’t recall any issues with AWS.

 

It all just worked from that perspective.

 

Hi. So you didn't need to open any ports on your firewall etc?

 

The current requirement is to allow the following IP Ranges and port 4172 TCP/UDP

 

"us-east-1" = "52.23.61.0 to 52.23.62.255 AND 3.217.228.0 to 3.217.231.255";`

"us-west-2" = "54.244.46.0 to 54.244.47.255";`

"ca-central-1" = "35.183.255.0 to 35.183.255.255";`

"eu-west-1" = "52.19.124.0 to 52.19.125.255";`

"eu-central-1" = "52.59.127.0 to 52.59.127.255";`

"eu-west-2" = "35.176.32.0 to 35.176.32.255";`

"ap-southeast-1" = "52.76.127.0 to 52.76.127.255";`

"ap-southeast-2" = "54.153.254.0 to 54.153.254.255";`

"ap-northeast-2" = "13.124.247.0 to 13.124.247.255";`

"ap-northeast-1" = "54.250.251.0 to 54.250.251.255";`

"sa-east-1" = "54.233.204.0 to 54.233.204.255";

"us-gov-west-1" = "52.61.193.0 - 52.61.193.255";

No, nothing like that.

 

I'm still asleep but trying to think why they'd need it - you're using a website to remotely access virtual machines on AWS within the browser so the firewall shouldn't come into it, should it?

 

To say PISA use technical solutions, they don't seem to understand what they're doing with those solutions.
