[sims] Any way to import work email address to existing staff users?

Hi,

 

I have just been tasked with getting staff work emails into their existing SIMS accounts for some online service enrolment, most staff appear to have personal email addresses or non at all etc.

 

Is there a (foolproof) tool that would allow me to be able to import a list of emails to a list of existing staff entries?

 

I dont really want to be entering 100+ email addresses in manually... but I cant see a way from my forays with google and edugeek search.

Our SIMS Support Unit did this for us. Afaik we just provided a CSV with details of email addresses.

Log a case with the SIMS Service Desk and request a copy of patches 23212 and 17195, the DBDIAGNOSE_EMAIL_PHONE_IMPORT_REPORT.sql script and the instructional document. You will need to follow the instructions in the document to create the CSV file to import the information into SIMS.net.

Patch 23212 will read the CSV file and import the applicable email and/or telephone details. It will also write a log file to the SIMS database that the SQL script will report on. These results will include details of any records that were not imported. Patch 17195 will then delete the temporary log file that was created by patch 23212.

 

It's a bit fiddly but it's not too bad.

It's been a while but it's pretty quick if I remember correctly.

Janx1975 - I did it the lazy way - get the admin staff to input them and make it part of the standard record creation procedure from now on

I will look into this tool for Admin staff to use following the bulk import that I will have to do this time round, many thanks!

 

I am a new Network Admin, and "SIMS stuff" was always done by my NM in my previous employment so I never got my hands dirty with it. I'm already fed up with having to wait until staff logout of SIMS! lol.

I think that's only for User Defined Fields...

Must admit, I manually added all our staff e-mail accounts into SIMS. Took a lot less time than doing the Y7's each year
