"User folder" on desk only when clicking up arrow i file explorer.

Hi all,

 

I'm in the final stages of configuring the GPOs for Windows 10 LTSB.

 

Just having a click about double checking the security and access, and stumbled across the below issue.

 

Not sure is it's correct behaviour or a "feature" as i've hidden the folder from "desktop" view;

 

When i open file explorer to "this pc";

 

 

and click on the "up" arrow next to the "back" or "forward" arrows, i see the following screen;

 

 

Clicking on the user folder i get the following screen;

 

 

Click on a folder in there (pictures in this example), it's clear i'm in the users local profile. I can't save anything here as it's all redirected;

 

 

So i guess my question/s is, Do you guys have this behaviour? Can i somehow remove the users folder from appearing at all from that location (managed to remove the recycle bin via regedit gpo). Or can i disable the up arrow?

 

if i click on the "desktop location from "this pc" the user folder doesn't appear, so i'm confused to why it does if i click "up" from "this pc"

Yes I see the User(Profile) folder when accessing it the way you have, however, the folders for desktop my documents etc are all our redirected folders.

 

We have only had the odd user do something daft with the profile folder a few times, really because they have permissions to write into the profile folder so have saved docs directly in the root, but out of 24000 users its not been worth the time or effort to look into removing it altogether, if is even possible.

 

I would suggest you have an issue with folder redirection if the placeholders are not redirecting to the network in there. all ours take you to the redirected folders.

All our redirectied folders work fine. It's just the "user's files" folder on the desktop.

 

However.....

by "replacing" the following reg key:
