Hi all,

I've just been asked how we go about distributing voting papers for a parent governor election. We need to send one paper to each parent. Simple eh? However, how do we take into account that some individuals have multiple children at school? Is there a report in SIMS that would allow us to suppress duplicate individuals and create a mailing list (or even better labels file) so that we send one voting slip to each parent? Surely other schools have had to do this?

Could you run a report to excel, use the remove duplicate feature and then create your labels using a mail merge?

I have done this before but with email addresses because we used Google Forms instead.

Good heavens! More than one candidate for a Parent Governor? That's a very lucky school.

As Chair, I would be finding a use for the volunteers rather than putting it to a vote. We never seem to have enough people and, on the rare occasions, we have had more than one candidate we have a resignation soon after.

Reset parental ballot flags. Provided all students are properly linked in SIMS then mailing point will only report back with the eldest child for those who can vote. This is when you discover all the unobvious errors in sibling data, good luck. :)
