arjanver Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Hi, Students have now homefolders with about 500MB storage. We use Windows 10 1709 for now and use mandatory profiles. Most students use shared computers inside classrooms. Only some classes have byod devices which has not this issue. I'm thinking to use Onedrive for storage. But i don't want to sync to local pc or to file servers. I've read something about "Redirect Windows known folders to OneDrive", but seems not working with mandatory profiles. I'm wondering if someone else also have this or have a solution or suggestions how to get allong with storage for students. Thanks for reading and looking forward to tips and suggestions.
ColinP Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 if you upgrade to 1803 you can use gpo to set it as cloud storage and just use the onedirve icon in the folder list... this is how we are going ( make sure you use the built in one drive not one dive bundled with office)

ColinP Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 you need to have 1803 admx files Enable OneDrive Files On-Demand - Enabled Silently configure OneDrive using the primary Windows account - Enabled 1
ColinP Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 we have local profiles with desktop and folder redirection
arjanver Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 we have local profiles with desktop and folder redirection okay, but students logging-on on different computers everyday is not ideal (long logon times)?

arjanver Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 was affrfaid of that. is not an option for us.
gshaw Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 @arjanver you can run a script on Logoff that will clear the OneDrive cache so disk space use doesn't build up. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/gshaw0.wordpress.com/2017/11/08/onedrive-files-on-demand-first-steps/amp/

I've read something about "Redirect Windows known folders to OneDrive", but seems not working with mandatory profiles. Take a look at Google Drive File Stream. It is free and truly unlimited. It also doesn't waste bandwidth by syncing all the files down to each client when the user logs in because it only uses links and caches files that are already downloaded - so it is really quite efficient. Users access it exactly as a shared drive. You can setup shared team drives as well as individual drives too.
