Unifi Hotspot (Guest) and Lightspeed Rocket

Hi there,

 

at our school we have a lot of swimming gala's etc and we would like to offer the parents guest access to our wifi using the voucher based system but am not sure how to go about setting this up so that they are given a voucher, key in the code and then get on to the web with appropriate filtering without being challenged by the Lightspeed Rocket.

 

Has anyone done this this before?

 

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

You could set a range of ip addresses not to need authentication on the rocket box, but apply a strict web filtering rule set on the ip range.

Could do but as we have a flat network with no VLANs, it would be impossible to distinguish the ip addresses on the portable devices used by the staff/students and the public who will be using the guest/hotspot system.

 

Unless I'm missing something that is?

You are correct, without vlans I don't think it will work.

You would have to use Vlans in order to separate the Guest Wifi from your School network otherwise you are taking on a massive amount of risk regarding virii, hacking, etc.
