Win10 + FMS Tips?

Afternoon All,

 

Looking to finish migrating over to Win10 over Summer for our last admin users etc, specifically finance team and wondered if anyone found any gotchas or tips for FMS.

 

I'm assuming it still needs local admin to work "properly" with UAC on.

 

Apart from that has anyone found any issues with borland etc etc or is it fairly smooth?

FMS doesn't need local admin - we've certainly never given it through XP, 7 and 10. Our FMS users tend to be Power Users but that's it. Otherwise, I've found it extremely easy to get working - pushed out with SOLUS3, check the .ini is right, use.

Hi, We have been running 1709 since it came out and have Fms installed on 5 workstations. I just installed directly from Solus 3. Not had an issue at all.

Doesn't it still need the borland pdoxusers thingy to have full control etc? And without doing manual config in the borland admin page the only way was to do local admin before wasn't it?

 

Or has it finally fixed that?

 

Referencing this issue:

 

The following steps explain how to change the path of the PDOXUSRS.NET file:

 

1. Create a new folder in C:, e.g. C:\BDEShare, and copy the Pdoxusrs.net file into it.

2. Open the Windows Control Panel from the Start menu.

3. Double-click on BDE Administrator to open the BDE Administrator dialog.

4. Select the Configuration tab.

5. Expand the Configuration tree, then the Drivers tree, then the Native tree.

6. Highlight PARADOX and edit the NET DIR setting. Enter the path of the newly created

folder, e.g. C:\BDEShare.

7. Close the BDE Administrator window.

8. Ensure that all FMS users have Full Control permissions to the C:\BDEShare folder.

 

If this has not resolved your issue please try the following steps are required to allow access to the BDE Administrator Control Panel Application:

 

1. Log in to the workstation as an Administrator.

2. Select Start | Run and enter regedit to open the Registry Editor.

3. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE tree.

4. Expand the SOFTWARE branch. WOW6432Node

5. Right-click on Borland and select Permissions from the drop-down list.

6. Highlight Users.

7. Select Full Control and click the OK button.

8. Exit the Registry Editor window.

 

FIX 2

 

Turn off UAC via the Windows control panel | user accounts. Also, disable this. Go to Local Security Policy on the affected machine. Select Local Policies > Security Options. Please scroll down the list and disable any policy relating to UAC.

I remember working round the mess with PDOXUSRS.NET, that was fun. I never made our users admin though, but I did do some funky hacks way back that have evaporated from my memory. Certainly haven't needed to touch that since we started with SOLUS3 though, and never on 10. Just worked.

Ah that's good to hear then Will have to do some testing! *fingers crossed*

 

I don't suppose you could try the two links that used to break if you get a minute sometime it was:

 

Focus -> accounts receivable -> supplier

and

Focus -> General Ledger -> Manual Journal Processing -> Add -> Cash Book -> Select

 

etc just curious if they don't use those bits or whether is fixed finally haha

I'm no FMS wizz, but I can only see Accounts payable -> supplier , and I'm not sure how far I can go with the other without our Finance Officer slicing holes into delicate parts of me. That's testing on a Server 2016 RDP host, which certainly hasn't been modified at all.

I think that was sorted a good while back. I don't need to do it on 7 or 10.
