[mdt] ztigather

Could someone take a look at this ztigather log and help me?

 

I'm building machines fine - so the server is working. But when it gets to the database section of it all it seems to loose connection and cannot find the share.

 

Can anyone help? Or tell me why?

I've run the customsettings.ini file through the offline testing as indicated here: https://deploymentresearch.com/Research/Post/348/Save-time-and-avoid-pain-Create-a-MDT-simulation-environment and everything works fine on a normal windows PC.

 

I'm wondering why my machine, when deploying cannot resolve ygg-vmdt

 

Going to try with IP addresses.

 

Suggests to me a DNS issue - but what would I ask the LEA - as they hold our dns servers.

If they do hold it it could be something silly like you've added a static IP on the server, and they've got it set for non-static records so it wiped it after a while if it didn't get updated by the NIC etc. They should be able re-add a record in for it and set it static based, or if you check on your nic settings is it set to update dns etc?

I've asked the question, but I'm not sure how to do the last bit: "check on your nic settings is it set to update dns etc"

If you go to the nic in control panel, and access it's properties, ipv4, advanced etc etc you'll find the DNS tab

 

Right near the bottom should be an option to register this connections addresses in DNS which should make it re-register in the zone if it drops it's settings, but if you're using static etc it might not be on

While they look at their end, what do you get if you run

ipconfig /registerdns

Normally if that's erroring you're either missing a reverse lookup zone, or the dc isn't accepting non-secure/dynamic updates for that range.

 

Not much you could do with either if it's on their end though, probably best to wait for them to add a static in for now

@Steve21 - LEA guys fixed it. I'll copy and paste what our guys said:

 

DNS looks ok. Static entry for ygg-vmdt.school.education.swansea.sch.uk 10.154.26.12

I can resolve and it ping it from my machine and several servers on the domain without speficying the FQDN.

Have you tried the FQDN when accessing the share? I believe the DHCP server will give out gwyr.education.swansea.sch.uk as it’s DNS Domain name and if the machine hasn’t joined the School domain at that point it’ll try and resolve ygg-vmdt. gwyr.education.swansea.sch.uk.

Once the machine has joined the domain it’ll always use the DNS suffix for the school domain first and thne the gwyr one.

I can put a static entry into the Gwyr domain in DNS if you want to try that.
