Someone explain how Meraki MDM works please?

It's been a while since I did anything with Meraki, but as I remember the MDM doesn't install any 'software' (unless you tell it to), but in most cases software will need to be installed to facilitate enrollment.

 

For iPads/phones/pods : If you're not using DEP or configurator to connect the device to meraki, then you/ your user will need to install the management app so they can enroll the device.

For Windows PCs/laptops/ect : The msi applet needs to be installed for it to connect to the MDM.

Android : Similar to apple, you need the management app installed to be able to enroll.

 

You might not need the app to enrol tablets (I can't remember) but it's far an away the easiest way.

You can enroll iOS, Android, and Macs without an app. Windows requires one.

 

There will be an enrollment URL in your Meraki dashboard you can go to on your devices and do it clientless through the web browser if you're not doing bulk enrollment via DEP.
