[sims] Solus3 - Nothing in "Available Computers"

Out of the blue, we suddenly have zero machines showing up when we go to add a new target in Solus 3 - so going to Environment, Targets, Add client, you'd normally see your AD structure under Computer Selection. However for some reason this is entirely empty. Adding a machine manually to try and push something out is a no-joy zone too with "Unable to add this computer: Unknown IP address" - which is amusing as the IP address comes up automatically and correctly when you enter the computer name.

Everything appears to be set correctly, the only thing likely to have changed is a windows update but nothing else Capita's MyAccount search feature is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

We've had this (no computers showing) in SOLUS3 for a while now. I either add existing machines by looking at Agents or I add using the IP address.

 

Annoying but I never raised a support case for it.

Might be more than just solus, can't seem to browse to any shares from the server (2016) other than what's been mapped to drives and a newish server 2016 DC.

Could it be DNS related? Do you have any events mentioning DNS in you sims server event log?

DNS is fine, same aplies when trying to browse to the IP addresses. All pings OK, everything resolves as it should, not firewall related. Looks like I'm rolling back windows updates today

I should have said that we see the AD structure but no Computers in that root group.

Grr, SMB1 was the cause of our issue. Resolved that, but now clients all (apart from my PC) getting reason 0 >

It could be, we denied SMB1 via Group Policy across the whole network and removed the feature from servers.

 

Why would SOLUS3 use SMB1?

It'll probably be using whatever is available. When we upgraded our SIMS server to 2016 during Easter we didn't take any steps to change SMB assuming it would already be taken care of, as a newer OS. It was fine until windows updated at some point over the last 8 days then I had to take the same steps to disable SMB1 as I did originally with our 2012 servers.

I do recall reading something about you shouldn't remove the feature from windows, only disable it as some other services are dependent on it but can't be sure.

Our reason0 thing was DNS related, after changing all those SMB gubbins DNS threw a wobbler

It can be due to you logging in with a different account to the one that installed SOLUS 3 originally, you have to make sure that the user has full rights to all files in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys

Thanks, I checked those permissions and it seems to be fine. I also reset the domain, giving it administrator authorisation. The AD structure shows, but no machines.

 

It's no biggie, we've learned to work around it now.
