EES - open value subscription ?

Hi everyone

 

can someone please tell me does the EES - open value subscription still still require a valid licenses on a machine before you upgrade it ?

 

and

 

if you are upgrading are you supposed to use 'education' not enterprise ?

 

hoping someone can help

Yes, you still require a valid windows license of some form on the device you are upgrading. As for the Education and Enterprise debate, I believe we are meant to go with Education, and that is what I am using. Though I don't think there is much/any difference between Education and Enterprise in the features anyway.

Education and Enterprise are mostly the same thing. Only difference is that Windows 10 Home can be upgraded to Education, while Home cannot be upgraded to Enterprise. MS did this so that schools could save on the OEM license cost, and spec computers with Win 10 Home, and then upgrade it with their EES entitlement.

The licences are upgrades so yes you still need a licence on the machine.

It used to be in MS documentation that we had to use Edu and Ent was prohibited but that seemed to disappear at some point.

How do you buy office presently? Perpetual or via OVS-ES?

I believe its OVS-ES all our systems have been outsourced , i used to purchase the EES however its no longer in my hands

 

when the IT was taken over all the pc's where reimaged with windows 10 enterprise and office 2016

 

i just wondering should they be education as most had win7 or XP on them ?

and am i correct in believing that office 2016 will be going for 365 cloud based ?

You can still use Office 2016, but to be honest with you, if you have Office 365 accounts, you might as well install Office 365 on the PCs with Device Based Activation, it has much better handling of the Office 365 features.

My understanding is you get upgrade rights, so, you don't have to upgrade at all if you don't want to... though I would upgrade to something other than XP. The license key for Windows 10 that we are provided works for Windows 10 Professional and Education. Though, Education has much greater control, like turning off those darn Windows Store suggestions, etc. So you might as well upgrade to Education.

OVS-ES is just EES for less than 500 staff. Education Edition is a new standard since Windows 10, so Windows 7 and Windows XP would not have had the same level, it would have just been Professional, though you would be in your rights to upgrade to Education, at present time there doesn't seem to be a difference between Education or Enterprise on a feature level.

 

Office still has a PC based installation, and really Office 365 for PC is a modded version of Office 2016. No sign of Office being cloud only yet.

If you are licensed for it. Depends what 365 set up you have.

 

Office will continue with both the 365 and volume versions for at least the next version of office and I don't think there's an indication yet of that changing?
