abaxter2 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Hi All, I am having a hard time with my reseller at current trying to get quotes for Microsoft services, I currently have an OVS and my understanding is that with an OVS you can purchase on prem and cloud services (see attached), but my reseller keeps informing me that if I want cloud services I have to purchase via CSP. As I do have on prem and cloud services an OVS fits my needs and I would like to order services via my OVS. Over the last year we have been adding more cloud services such as Intune for education / Azure AD premium, and every time they provide a quote via CSP, and I have to keep saying I want the quote via OVS - after a lot of to and fro they do provide a quote via OVS, but they keeping telling me that the option via OVS will not be a option soon - but I cannot find this information anywhere nor have they proved that this is going to be the case. I am currently looking onto the following products: Office 365 ATP: https://products.office.com/en-gb/exchange/online-email-threat-protection They are working on an OVS quote but sent me the wrong product. As Office 365 ATP is included in Office 365 A5, I was also after a quote for Office 365 A5 - they will only provide a quote via CSP Windows defender ATP: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsforbusiness/windows-atp Microsoft have informed me that this is not an addon but included in Windows 10 education E5 - Windows 10 Education E3 is already included in my OVS, and Microsoft have confirmed that I can order Windows 10 education E5 keys via my OVS but my reseller is not supplying a quote. Microsoft 365 A5: https://www.microsoft.com/en-GB/education/buy-license/microsoft365/default.aspx# as this would include all the services that I require in one licence, but again they will only supply a quote via CSP. Has anyone heard that OVS is not going to be an option anymore? and is anyone having problems ordering services via their OVS? Many thanks for your time.transactional_licensing_comparison_chart.pdf
jmak Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Time for a new supplier - I always get more than one quote for ours anyway.
r0bun Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I'm having the same issue and the information available is as clear as mud! From my conversations it appears that there are certain newer types of cloud license, such as Microsoft 365 Education A3/A5 that are only available on CSP and not OVS-ES, where as other, older products, such as EMS E3/E5 are still accessible (and cheaper) under OVS-ES.
MartinT Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I was told earlier this week at a seminar that OVS agreements would cease. The thing that pricked up my ears was that the FTE staff count would stop, to be replaced by overall staff count. This would put the staff count up considerably (we have quite a few part-timers). I'm currently spreadsheeting my options but it looks like A3 will be the best bet for staff with A1 for students. Big question is what to do with Exchange? I'd like to keep our on-premises server but I need to study what migration to their hosting would look like in practice.
localzuk Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I've just had a quote back for a mix of on-prem and cloud SKUs through OVS-ES. Got my on-prem desktop pack, and server licenses, plus Azure AD Premium 1 and the Office 365 student and faculty licenses. Yes, there are changes coming, but they haven't hit OVS-ES yet. I believe the full 1000 user+ EES has had the changes made though? I'd say speak to different resellers. IDN Supplies are always good, Millgate and Caretower too.

From that I gleaned that it only affects organisations with more than 1000 FTE - more than most schools I would have thought.
MartinT Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 So if I were to go with, say, Office 365 A5, how do I price up Windows 10 Education clients, server cores, SQL and Exchange licencing? Do I still need OVS for that?

You'd choose Microsoft 365 A5, rather than Office 365 A5 - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/education/buy-license/microsoft365/default.aspx For on-prem server stuff, I believe there are some cloud SKUs that cover on-prem as well, but I am unsure of what they would be. 1
ITGuyWestMidlands Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Anybody made any further progress with this on ovs. I'd like intune and azure premium 1.
abaxter2 Posted November 10, 2018 Author Posted November 10, 2018 Both intune and azure ad p1 are avaible via OVS - I ordered mine this year, and unless anything has changed I believe this is still the case, I did have to keep asking for the quotes via OVS tho!
Blue_Cookeh Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 (edited) I was told Intune is done on number of faculty (all, not FTE like typical EES licensing) @ roughly £6 each. This would then cover you for all staff and student devices. I believe that might be a little expensive to be honest (I think you can get it for between 4 and 5 quid) but the overall quote worked out cheaper (we needed Win Server etc etc) so we just went with it anyway. ConceroEdu_Brad Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 I have collected information on Microsoft 365 and what licenses to choose A1, A3 or A5 as you can mix and match from a CSP. I have a document I can send if any one is interested
XiJ Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 I have collected information on Microsoft 365 and what licenses to choose A1, A3 or A5 as you can mix and match from a CSP. I have a document I can send if any one is interested I’d be quite interested in that if you could Pm a link. I believe we’re now at the point where M365 is better value for our schools. (Although not all)
