Hi all,

Could someone check this in their Veeam B&R VM for me please.

I seem to have a 70Gb 2nd hard disk on my Veeam VM... (VMWare Esxi).

Not sure if it is required or I can delete it.

Cheers in advance :)

It is likely from a hotadd operation where your Veeam VM attaches other VM disks as read only to back them up.

Check for snapshots etc.

Anything showing in Disk Management on that server?

I'm not sure anyone would be able to say yes delete it without knowing how things are set up in your environment. Maybe it was added for a vPower NFS store?

Disk management is showing a 70Gb offline drive

No snapshots on this VM.

Pretty simple set up with local hypervisor storage.

I might wait for the next backup to run to see if anything happens with it.

It is unusual as Veeam jus gets installed on a Windows Server (Physical or Virtual), I'm not sure it would create the disk automatically for you. What version Veeam are you running?

9.5.0.1536

Only thing on that VM is Server 2016 and Veeam. Nothing else pretty much.

OK so it seems that the 2nd disk is attached to an old .vmdk file lurking in one of my datastores.

Quick call to support has raised the question... How the bl**dy hell dis that get there??... and yes I can delete it.

Many thanks for taking a look guys n gals ;)

I've used to be responsible for Veeam in a professional role at last place and upgraded through every itiration from 6.1 to version 9 and never seen Veeam create a vmdk datastore for itself, surely Veeam is not backing up itself?

I currently use Veeam v9.5 at home in a lab.

Yup, was what I said - it will have lingered after a failed backup likely.

Yeah but unusual because it was attached to a disk file that I don't and have never backed up. Its just an old test machine.

Odd.
