Badaz52 Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Hi, We are currently migrating our exchange to 365. We will retain our on premises Exchange 2013 box. I have migrated a few users but have noticed that the GAL that they see now contains lists of names of users who haven't been at the school for years, their accounts are long since deleted so I can't tick the hide from address lists box. Any idea why this is happening? users with mailboxes still on the on premises box don't see this.
houlta Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 (edited) You might want to try bringing up the user/s concerned in ADSIEdit and changing the 'ShowInAddressBook' field or the 'msExchHideFromAddressLists' depends which version of AD you have and then sync again. (set to TRUE for the disabled users in the case of the msExch setting, false or blank for the other iirc) Edited May 21, 2018 by houlta
Badaz52 Posted May 21, 2018 Author Posted May 21, 2018 I can't even find the users in question they don't see to be there, a lot of the names I'm seeing were deleted years ago. Is there anything else I can do?
houlta Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 I'd expect with Exchange sync for deleted users locally to be deleted from the cloud too, do you have those users in the cloud as there but just disabled?
Badaz52 Posted May 21, 2018 Author Posted May 21, 2018 I think I've found whats going on and I can sort it out manually (if there is an automatic way please say!) in office 365 admin center it shows the mailboxes I have migrated and then under contacts it shows all those SMTP records that reference on site mailboxes and others (deleted users) I could remove these SMTP records manually but if there is an automatic way I would be most grateful to know it lol
houlta Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 I've just slapped myself after realising you may not be in the long term situation of having setup a hybrid migration etc. I've just assumed you have Sounds like you've just done a cut-off migration perhaps? This is long winded, you'll need to have a read - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200581(v=exchg.150).aspx Do you want/need exchange running locally?
