Hi All,

We use SIMS In Touch to contact parents regarding behaviour, attendance, achievement and other general messages.

I cannot remember if we ever obtained consent from parents as we cannot locate the forms, although most parents have a tick for consent in SIMS itself.

Would we be covered under the following and be able to continue using it without sending a permissions form out:

(e) processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller;

(f) processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by a controller

What has everybody else done?

Thanks

You are covered under (e) for any messages directly related to the running of the school, including behaviour, attendance and achievement.

"Other general messages" is too broad a category to say; stuff like "School is closed" is fine, but stuff like "Please buy tickets to a school play" is probably not without refreshing consent to ensure they've opted-in to marketing.

Like @djrscally says for matters relating to the core needs of running a school you will use public interest.

good discussion on the two you mention HERE

head to page 3+ specifically....
