Windows 10 Image

Hi All,

 

We as a school are currently preparing for a summer 2018 windows 10 site deployment, all policy's are 95% complete as well as the image but ive 2 things which I cant seem to remove from the image locally or via group policy.

 

Firstly the apps folder which is generated on the start menu using classic shell and secondly the search bar next to the start menu, I know these are little things but they are massively annoying when you dont want them visable.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated

Did you know Classic Shell is no longer being developed? Wouldn't be the best idea to push it out as at some point it will break.

 

In the words of the developer

 

"Windows 10 is being updated way too frequently (twice a year) and each new version changes something that breaks Classic Shell"

 

Although personally I don't see why there is a need to use it in the first place.

I've been preparing W10 for deployment here as well.

 

To get rid of the search bar I've used a registry key deployed by GPO and it works like a charm.

 

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search

SearchboxTaskbarMode

REG_DWORD

DECIMAL

0

 

Setting the value to 0 will cause the whole bar to disappear and setting the value to 1 will cause the bar to appear as a magnifying glass button.
