Zourous Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I'm not a big mac user but need to clone an existing imac to another imac that has a failed hard drive and now has a new empty hard drive. Anyone know the best way to do this and for free?
3s-gtech Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Carbon Copy Cloner comes with a 30 day trial, which is fully functional. I believe this trial is open to you as a school. CCC is great. Otherwise, you could use DeployStudio to pull the base image in to deploy it, bu this is quite a complex beastie for just one Mac. Very handy to have for the future though. 1
Zourous Posted May 3, 2018 Author Posted May 3, 2018 Thanks I had started looking at that but I guess I would need a usb to sata lead to connect the 3.5 HDD to. I think there is a spare one on another site I can go to.
Arthur Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I guess I would need a usb to sata lead to connect the 3.5 HDD to. Target disk mode would also work. You won't have to take a drive out of an iMac then. https://support.apple.com/kb/PH25318 1
