SSL Certificate Domain Verification

I need to create an alias account for domain verification for the SSL Certificate. I am trying to use gmail to create the alias, however the SMTP server address does not require any authentication and gmail does not allow me to proceed without and username.

 

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Usually if no authentication is required you could pop in any old rubbish. Are you sure that smtp server is available externally to your RBC without any auth though - I'd imagine that might get abused?

The SMTP server belongs to Link2ICT and only allows relay messages to be sent on the BGFL network only.

smtp.bgfl.org still uses port 25 to the best of my knowledge. You should be able to put a genuine G-Suite username/password in there still.

What about if you specify either -

 

smtp.gmail.com if using SSL on port 465 or

smtp.gmail.com if using TLS on port 587

This is what I am doing.

 

1) Going to Settings-->Accounts-->Add another email address.

2) enter in email address, admin@.bham.sch.uk

3) Treat as an alias box ticked. click next step.

4) SMTP settings:

 

smtp.gmail.com

entered gmail username

entered gmail password

 

This is does work for any port (587 or 465).

 

I then found this on youtube,

If what you're doing is all cloud based, it should work outside of school or tethered to your phone (for example).

 

It could be ports 465 and 587 are being blocked by the firewall, unless you request them to be unblocked.
