Publisher 2016 corrupt file

Hi,

one of our students has some GCSE coursework on what appears to be a corrupt publisher file and we get the message "publisher has detected a problem in the file you are trying to open".

 

The associated error code ( using CTRL SHIFT I) is 1100931.

 

I have tried the following to try and open it including trying publisher 2010, different machines, booting in safe mode, copying it to usb deleting it and using file recovery software to restore. Grateful for any ideas as the file seems to have some content in (1.5 Mb in size) so recovering some of it would be useful

Have you tried seeing if google drive can convert it?

 

I've also found that OpenOffice can often open files that Office can't

 

Also check the file in notepad to make sure the student hasn't taken a different file and changed the extension...

Many Thanks for the options - we didn't have much success after trying both options unfortunately. We also used a free tool called Nucleus-Kernel Publisher which recovered the text from the file which may be some use.

 

If the student hadn't let 6 weeks elapse since the problem occurred we might have had a chance to restore a previous version.

If the corrupt Publisher file contained images, X-Ripper should be able to extract them.
