Making Heritage Online accessible on internet

Our librarian wants to make heritage accessible on the internet. Its accessible on our internal network just not outside.

 

The server sits on 2008 R2 currently.

 

Would it be a case of asking our ISP to route it though there firewall?

We used to but stopped it about 2 years ago

 

From a student base of just under 1500 we were looking at around less than 10 external requests a month and I’m pretty sure it’s not heavily used internally either.

Ideally the Heritage Online part should be on a separate server in your DMZ only expose port 443 inbound on your firewall. You'll need a public IP and control of your external DNS.

We did briefly also but trends like Asgard only showed a few hits per month. Totalled 16 hits one year. I left it turned off after an upgrade and had no one complain to date. That was near enough 2 years ago
