I wonder if anyone can answer these for me please as @SchoolsBroadband don't seem to be able to;

If I add new users to AD, how and when will NetSweeper find out?

Everyday at 21:15 since moving to Schoolsbroadband, I receive an email from Microsoft telling me "Azure Active Directory did not register a synchronization attempt from the Identity synchronization tool in the last 24 hours for Debenham High School". How do I run a report to show what addresses the server is trying to get to so I might be able to see why it's failing?

Thank you

Hi Stuart,

currently on the latest v5 of Netsweeper AD syncs once a day. I believe this is around 5 o'clock (@RobMason please confirm). We will be upgrading to v6 in the summer which does direct lookups via LDAP rather than a directory sync.

You / We can run a trace to see what each user attempts to connect to. The support guys can help you with this as we can see what's been blocked and unblock it if required. If you get stuck do let me know and I'll escalate for you.

Thanks

@SchoolsBroadband why was the decision made for such a sync time? 5pm (or 5am) each day is useless for us - there are days when we have new users showing up at all times and I cant sort out their internet access until the following day. This means I then have to contact support to run a sync which in itself can take hours if doing it by email.

According to the NS documentation (https://helpdesk.netsweeper.com/docs/5.3/#t=Directory_Sync_Docs%2FDirectory_Sync_Configuration%2FDirectory_Synchronization_Configuration.htm%23Change_Directory_Syncbc-32&rhtocid=_2_8_1_4_4), the Sync interval can be set as low as 10 minutes, now whilst I appreciate that 10-minute syncs for the many schools you have on the system would increase overhead, once an hour or every 2 shouldn't be so bad should it?

Just my 2p

hi @sister_annex

Let me know with our product manager Rob (he designed the system with Netsweeper) as to why we've done it once a day. I'm sure it will be having thousands of schools syncing constantly wouldn't be good for the platform.

Rob is on holiday today but back Monday so I'll be in touch then with a full answer for you.

Thanks

Dave
