[sccm 2012] PXE problems with SCCM and WDS

I recently upgraded my SCCM server to Server 2016 and SCCM to 1802 and my PXE boot no longer worked. I went through the normal procedure of resetting it by removing the PXE option on the distribution point etc. etc.

 

The problem I have is that after rebooting the server WDS is reinstalled even though the PXE option is not on in the DP. Even if I remove WDS using the Add/Remove Rolls on reboot it's back and reinstalled. Due to this when ever I PXE boot I get an incorrect BCD error as it is looking in the folders installed by WDS in RemoteInstall instead of the ones generated by SCCM.

 

No matter what I do WDS is always reinstalled.

 

Any thoughts?

With some previous current branch release updates of SCCM I have needed to re-create my boot image (using an MDT boot image) before PXE worked as expected.

Haven't tried removing PXE recently but I don't recall experiencing what you are seeing there. When you are removing the role, it definitely goes? Can you identify the point where it comes back?

Already removed PXE support in sccm, waited a few mins and then remove the role from server manager/powershell ? confirm both are still gone then reboot? anything in eventviewer?
