Our management team decided to stop staff using mobile phones in classrooms.

I want to enable 2 step verification in O365 for GDPR. I don't think we're ever going to go down the line of authentication key fobs or cards. Is phone verification the only other option?

Staff did use plickers

but the SMT are not happy with the data protection implications with that.

Nope. It's 2FA - something you know - password and something you have - like a phone.

Have you looked at saying on-prem only requires a password, then offsite you require 2fa - aka a phone.

Is that available for free?

Hmm... "The feature is available with the full version of Azure Multi-Factor Authentication, and not the free version for administrators."

£1 per month - before education discount... not too bad... still it is per user :'(

Still I suspect that education discount will really help

There is the MS Authenticator app.

That's not going to work if the staff aren't allowed to use their mobiles in class. It will only work if each member of staff has their own tablet device like an iPad.

What if it's a tablet or 2-in-1 device with a 3G/4G sim card? Would that be classed as a "phone" even though it isn't? :)

Just been to the Plickers website, never heard of it before now.

Had to laugh at the strap line:-

"Tailor instruction with instant feedback

Use Plickers for quick checks for understanding to know whether your students are understanding big concepts and mastering key skills."[/h]

Great grammar used there.

Enable multi factor authentication in 365... free... requires entering a one time code that is displayed once... for each device used to access email. 365 helpdesk showed me the entire process yesterday while sorting out a spambot intrusion in one of my teachers account ... sending out 1000’s emails without appearing in sent and receiving almost as many ndr’s! Pm me if interested in resolution re soft and hard fail spf record and rules as it is beyond this thread topic.

@Sir if the user says they won't put a work-related app on their personal phone are they effectively locked out of remote access?
