AD Home Folders

Hi all,

 

I've read lots of stuff about getting user Active Directory/MS home folders to show up in MacOS but I can't get a good way of this working. Does anyone have a step by step guide on how to get this working with High Sierra?

Has the UNC path been configured?

Do you mean in AD? Yes, it's configured in there (on the profiles tab). Do I need to set it elsewhere?

On the mac it will need to be configured. You can do it through Profile Manager profile. You can also do it through Users & Groups.

Can I do this dynamically on the Mac then? So no matter who logs on, it gets their home folder? So something like \\serrvername\%username%$

Yes through the profile deployed. It will be

$user

but the loggon name must match the servers name.

 

Mac logon name Joe.Bloggs must match Joe.Bloggs in AD if not it will not map the home folder.

I've got AD bound and have checked the box to use UNC path from Active Directory and I am able to get AD home folder for any Staff account. However it doesn't work for pupil accounts. I'm on High Sierra. however It worked perfectly on Sierra. Any ideas what could cause this?

Can pupils read the root of the home directory folder? I had this issue and it needed students to be able to read the root home share. That means they can see all home areas in the root, but due to NTFS permissions they can't access anyone else's home area. It was an obscure fix, but worked for us (and I know others, too).
