mrhcarlin Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 The powers that be have decided that they want a way of sending pop-up messages to all teacher and staff PCs in the school in accordance with our new lock-down procedure. It somehow got agreed that LanSchool was our best bet for this (since we already have a v8 license), although I disagree. Anywho, I can get PCs to communicate with a Tech Console using an LCS with the student.msi install, but I can't get installs with the teacher.msi to appear in the Tech Console. According to this article (https://helpdesk.stone-ware.com/portal/kb/articles/tech-console-cannot-see-teacher-machines-through-the-lcs), although it first says it's not possible due to the architecture of the software, they mention a workaround. Unfortunately this workaround doesn't appear to be working. Any thoughts? I'll even take some alternative software recommendations because I'm not convinced that LanSchool is the right way forward. Thanks.
LanSchoolUK_Adam Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Hi mrhcarlin, sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with Tech-to-Teacher comms in LanSchool. Hoping we can resolve your issue, and maybe turn around your opinion of LanSchool in the process What you're describing can definitely be configured, but the setup does vary from customer to customer based on your network architecture, VLAN's, etc. to make sure the requests are being routed correctly. Dropped you a PM so we can run through it with you.

perculator Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 Hi, We have LanSchool installed after ditching Net Support due to its pricing, really like LanSchool but it would be great if we could see the teacher PCs in the console, @mrhcarlin did you manage to get it working, if so help would be appreciated. Cheers 1
LanSchoolUK_Adam Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 Hi perculator, To make the Teacher Consoles visible in the Tech Consoles, you just need to go to Manage > Preferences > Network on the Tech Console. *If you're using no LCS (i.e. all machines are discoverable to each other, single-VLAN), then use 'Broadcast' as your communication method. or *If you're using 1 LCS (i.e. coverage of two or more VLAN's), then use 'Directed Broadcast' as your communication method: Subnet 1 should be your LCS IP Subnet 2 should be 255.255.255.255 or *If you're using 2+ LCS' (i.e. coverage of multiple physical sites or locations), , then use 'Directed Broadcast' as your communication method: Subnet 1 should be your Primary LCS IP Subnet 2 should be your Secondary LCS IP Subnet 3 should be 255.255.255.255 This means student traffic will still be routed via the LCS, but staff machines will still be discoverable over p2p broadcast. Hope that helps - PM me if you need any direct assistance; every purchase of LanSchool comes with a support contract that includes UK remote support (via TeamViewer).
perculator Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 Thank You for you help, i will have a go and get back to you if more assistance is required.
