I have just had an email off our local broadband consortium "Superfast Worcestershire" Superfast Worcestershire - Countywide Fibre Broadband

 

They advised that local SME's can apply for up to £3000 in vouchers towards getting 1Gb fibre into their premises. Not had a chance to read the T+C's but this could be of interest to school's looking at Broadband very soon.

Perhaps someone will remind you of this in 20 years' time. For those of us of a certain age...we remember 54Kb/s dialup speeds and thought that was dizzy fast compared to the original 300b/s dialup speeds. I also remember someone saying something about RAM capacities never needing to be more than 640K.

I definitely wouldn't complain if I had a 1GB/s Internet connection, but I don't think £3,000 would make much of a difference to the overall price (not in 2018 at least).

Recently had an email from Nottinghamshire County Council that some schools may be eligible, but not sure of the details, anyone know?

They specifically exclude all types of schools in the terms and conditions for suppliers, even independent schools!

 

When I questioned it I was told that the whole of the public sector is excluded, independent schools have been excluded to ensure equality between state and private education sectors... not impressed having met all other requirements!
