Crawl Website for Dead Links?

Morning "How do you do it"-ers!

 

I've need of a thing wot can crawl the school website for dead links and bring them to my attention. I've used Free Broken Link Checker - Online Dead Link Checking Tool once or twice, but I'm wondering if anyone else knows any freebies or had any recommendations that way.

This is a perfect use case for the Selenium browser automation kit - https://www.seleniumhq.org/

 

There are loads of example scripts on the web for this sort of thing - Selenium WebDriver how to find broken links, https://www.guru99.com/find-broken-links-selenium-webdriver.html

 

Most of them are Java - there are also Python bindings for Selenium (Selenium with Python — Selenium Python Bindings 2 documentation) if you prefer (like I do! )

We use a very low tech method. This kind of thing is reserved for detention students when they need to work off a debt to us at lunchtime.

 

It doesn't quite give the same satisfaction as getting them to format a giant box of old floppy disks, though.

if you use Google Analytics it shows you dead links I think

I had them cleaning keyboards (under supervision to prevent idiocy) at my last job.
