Show a Smoothwall block page on Ruckus guest wifi ???

Hi all,

 

Got a small dilemma here.

 

 

We're running an old-ish Ruckus Zonedirector 1100.

I have guest wifi set up and running fine.

 

On our Smoothwall I have a custom block page configured that displays whenever the filter kicks in.

 

 

By default, guest wifi on the ZD110 blocks traffic to the same subnet the ZD is on.... hence it can't contact the web server on Smoothwall to pick up the block page.

 

Everything is on the same subnet !

 

 

Anyone got this set up and working or suggest a workaround??

Hello Mate,

 

The Smoothwall will block access to its block page from your Ruckus Guest Subnet, I had this same issue. You need to create a firewall rule within Smoothwall for the subnet of your Ruckus Guest, and allow HTTP and HTTPS. Also, make sure the host name of the Smoothwall can be resolved from the guest network, this was my main issue and I actually ended up creating a static DNS host within Smoothwall pointing to the IP of the Guest network and to my host name.

Depending how confident you feel, you could always go down a VLAN route. I have just done exactly this, we have a complete flat network, all I have done is crated a VLAN across the switches just for BYOD and Guest.

Cheers m8. That makes sense. Not sure the firewall rule will work work beacause we're also on a flat network. I'll be VLAN ing over the summer so may leave it until then and use that method.
