I have just been asked to deploy sims to all the staff laptops and its failing on almost all saying either 'The remote machine can not be contacted' or 'unable to get an ip address for this agent'.

I have just disabled the domain firewall and will see if that helps.

I don't have a teacher laptop at the moment, as they are teaching but when I do I will double check DNS / ip's.

I was just wondering if the S:Sims drive needs to be mapped as I have not done this yet?

Nope S isn't required. Unless you have it setup oddly (In Solus 3 under settings tab it should be using an UNC path to the updates/client packages).

It's firewall by the sounds of it or DNS issues, generally you should have 5~ lines of firewall config deployed for solus clients.

I banged my head against this brick wall a while back. Was sure it was firewall based to start with, but it turned out that my habit of plugging a laptop into a wired connection when sorting stuff out was the culprit. It was still on the wireless as well and the two connections seemed to be the issue. Ran into the same problem when we bought some all-in-ones for the office. Making sure a machine was only connected via one of WLAN or LAN solved the problem.

An ipconfig /flushdns on the server will help speed things along too.

Thanks for all the info.

Just managed to get on a few of the laptops and it looks like the agent and sims have installed (not sure if it was disabling the firewall) but I get the following error when running Sims.

Incorrect s:\sims\connect.ini file

Obviously it looks like mapping the S drive will fix the issue but as mentioned above this should not be needed.

Solus3 settings menu

Update repositary - \\server-01\sims$\solus3_repository

Any idea what is going on?

Under environment and configuration workstations, the ini's you have set there under connect etc does it redirect to the S drive inside it? e.g. Redirect=S;\blahblah

If so that'll be the problem :p

I have

Default file - S:\SIMS\connect.ini

redirect - S:Sims

So should the redirect be \\server.lan\Sims$\SIMS

I assume Solus goes round and updates the agent with the updated info, should this be done while nobody is using Sims? Will it knock them off?
