Dos_Box Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I've just got myself a Netgear WPN824 wireless cable router. http://kbserver.netgear.com/images/WPN824.jpg And what a beast!! It's twice the size of my old Netgear DG834G and has more lights than Manchester airport. It took me an hour to setup, as the install CD was awful as it kept telling me that my network was not configured properly, even though nothing was. After a bit of searching I found a link on the setup instructions near the end informing me that If I knew what I was doing I could simply get straight into the router by entering an address. This I did and after seeing that I was several firmware revisions behind promptly flashed it. It's all fine now, and the cats love the 7 flashing blue lights on top (one for each arial). I shall write an in-depth review later, but I'm well chuffed with it.
ChrisH Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Looks nice My Netgear has served me well for 3+ years and is a similar design to that As for cats and computer related lights...... One of my cats sits on top of my monitor when Im playing games and trys to swipe the enemys that run onto screen with its paws Oh well thats another excuse to get a TFT he wont be sitting on top of that!!!!!
steve Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Never been a fan of netgear personally. I'd recommend a Vigor2800G, a bit more expensive though I'd guess http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor2800.html http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/image/t_vigor_2800g.jpg Installed mine over xmas, and its never been turned off since.
ChrisH Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I have always fancied one of those steve and if ever asked by small businesses I point them at one of them. Im going to be building my own though without wireless from an old compaq SFF pc with plenty of nice addons like a spam filter for my email which is currently flooding in at 125 emails a day from someone selling pills it has just started happening as well. Just need to rejig my email server as its acting as a catch all.
