Rumours of Windows/Intel Chip Update Slowing Down Computers

Morning all - just heard a grumble from out there in the world that a recent MS update (one to specifically or as part of which addresses the widely-publicised vulnerability in Intel chips) has been making PCs sluggish as all heck.

Has anyone had this or similar? I've had a little google but not found anything that's concrete. Rumours only or are we all about to get done over by whatever-it-s?

Cheers all...

I think its the spectre and meltdown patches.

It has an effect on all intel pc's the older the pc the worse effected they seem to be.

Also hits windows 7 harder than 10.

Apparantly there will be future updates that lower the performance effect.

Anecdote: our few remaining windows 7 PCs have been feeling very sluggish recently, and worse still since the Feb updates. We have not employed the firmware fixes yet.
