Force local home directory on startup disk not applying

Bit of an odd thing going on with some of our Macs (10.12) - we recently changed the AD settings in the Directory Utility to 'Create an mobile account at login' and therefore 'Force local home directory on startup disk'

 

This is working for new users and they also see their AD home folder in the dock - as expected - but their home folders are stored on the local drive.

 

However for users who have previously logged on before, they still seem to be mapped to their AD home folder, as I can see the Library, Desktop etc folders being created on login! I've deleted the user on the Mac local drive, and also cleared the Library folders from their AD home folder but it still keeps happening.

 

Is there anywhere else a user's settings would cause this? We want to remove the AD as the main home folder as it slows them down so much.

This is really weird - the Directory utility is set to force local profiles, yet for this one user it always uses the AD home folder! I've deleted the user many times, but their profile is recreated every time on their AD home folder!

 

All other users are creating their profiles locally, which is correct. And I thought Windows 10 was buggy ;-)

Does this happen regardless of which workstation the affected user logs onto? Or is it always the same workstation? I'd imagine with local homes it would make sense to let users use the same workstation. If the last two questions are true then log in as the local admin and issue this command from terminal:

 

dsconfigad -show

 

If its OK post back the results.

It just seems to be this one mac at the moment, and one user. Its as if the AD settings (we used to use) are being retained for that one user. Dsconfigad shows the correct configuration as far as I can see (i.e Force home to startup, Create mobile account are set to Enabled)

 

I haven't tried another mac as this is the new base image we're testing. We are trying to use profile manager as well but other users in the same group are getting the expected results.
