DCUK6 Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Hi, Have a Sangoma pbx 60 running FreePBX that we need a UPS for. Tried looking up power requirements but nothing says what power supply it uses. Anyone got any ideas how many watts this uses? Thanks
speakercon Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Doesn't seem to say in the documentation does it, does it not say on the back of the server? How about using an energy monitor to see how much it's using, of course it'll only show what it's currently using and not its max but it should give you an idea. https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/13a-plug-in-energy-saving-monitor-n67fu
DCUK6 Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 Nope no details in there. Have on of them somewhere. Would need to wait until the hols to turn it all off though. Few days left in the budget. SSD, processor and a few external cards. Cant imagine it being more than 3-400 watts. Looking at the APC Smart-UPS 1000VA, 700w. We get quite a few power cuts that either blip the power or we loose it for a few minutes. Just enough to keep this and the Meraki MX64 up.
speakercon Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Yeah I would think that 700w would be more than adequate. Out of intrest how are you finding the sangoma pbx? Is it the PBXact you have or just the freepbx?
DCUK6 Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 Sangoma returned and said it is roughly 60w. Have the freepbx. Would be better if it were setup by a decent company. Few issues, any change and you have to restart the system so you can make outgoing calls (inc change a display name) Everything is a upgrade that you pay for. Even basic things like stopping phones calling out (classroom). When it works its good though, just a pain about the above.
TTG_Rich Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Hey, we use the APC Smart-UPS 1000VA on many of our deployments, which often include a Meraki MX of some type and a small PBX like you mentioned and the load is fine on our experience for shorted outages and power blips. We sometimes even put a small switch on it with a few handsets for emergency use in a power outage. Sorry to hear about the Sangoma woes, we are a 3CX house ourselves and we do get a little mixed feedback on the freepbx/sangoma product. 1

Meant to reply to this a while back - we're using Freepbx on a Sangoma 60 Appliance. Your issues sound very odd as if something is stopping asterisk/Freepbx from reloading properly. We never need to reboot our PBX for anything with the exception of major OS upgrades. making changes is a case of pressing save then reloading the config which takes about 5-10 seconds and doesn't interrupt calls - I heard a buzz via a handset while reloading but that was it. 1
DCUK6 Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 (edited) Picked up a rack mount APC Smart-UPS 1000VA. Just waiting for the hols to install now. Their reply "We've spoken to Sangoma Support regarding this and they have advised that it is completely normal for this to happen when changes have been made on the system." Our install didnt go well. It seemed all the people that knew how the system works left just before our install. There were several things they couldnt work out how to install like the analogue converter, in the end i spent 10 minutes and got it to work, they were using the wrong port. They then tried to bill us for 4 hours diagnostics time even though they couldnt fix it. After i told them that this was supposed to be included in the install and that they loose this charge or il charge them my rates (pluck a number out of the air) they thought again. I normally would just go in and find the fault, the system seems so dodgily installed though that i dont want to break anything and have them come back and say your problem if i touch it.
