[ipad] Lightspeed MDM can't hide settings menu

Hi All,

 

First off if this is the wrong place for this, go ahead and bounce it into the right section. Did sit for about five minutes and scratch my head as to where to put this exact problem, but here we go:

 

We've had Lightspeed MDM managed Ipads out for a while, and a common problem is students going into settings menu and going hog wild on the accessibility settings, changing the WIFI onto our public facing one which means half the apps dont work, and just generally causing a lot of problems for us. It looks like for some reason you can't hide/disable the inbuilt options menu on the Ipad using lightspeed for some reason, despite the fact you can hide other inbuilt apps (itunes, home, find my iphone ETC). Even just being able to lock down certain settings would be a godsend, if we can't hide the app altogether.

 

Any help would gladly be appreciated.

I've asked them this question before. There is no way to hide the Settings app. They said apple don't allow it as it stops people being allowed to change the accessibility settings.

You should be able to stop the iPad joining any networks that you don't specify.

Oh well, that's a real shame. Guess we'll just have to firefight against people using the settings then.

They did say you should be able to hide/lock down most of the stuff that students can get to in the settings

As a solution to this I found putting the Settings app on its own separate home screen hidden away was a decent enough solution. I found the number of devices with inverted colours on, Bluetooth or wifi disabled etc massively reduced once this was done.

Whilst you can not hide the settings menu, iOS restrictions payloads let you...

 

1. Restrict access to change the wifi network, this has to be a payload from your MDM

2. Stop Bluetooth being turned on or off on the iPad, when you apply this payload via MDM whichever setting on the iPad is applied to lock this.

3. Stop any Apple ID from being used to sign into an iPad.
