we have just installed an xserve to lockdown our macs.

I want to be able to set safari to point at the schools intranet page rather than default mac.com

Can i do this from the xserve in any way???

Certainly, Use the Workgroup Manager app. and choose Computers (as opposed to users or groups). If you haven't made any lists, you can just select "All Computers" then choose Preferences - Internet - Web and set defaults for Home Page, default browser (Firefox in our case), search page and downloads destination - usually the users desktop(~/Desktop) - set to always manage and Robert's your father's brother.

There is a setting in Workgroup Manager that allows you to do this in preferences, Select the group you want to apply the setting too, and the option is in Internet > Web

edit: pfft too slow :(

I have leopard server and didn'nt have an option in prefs called internet.

I did it by selecting my groups and then clicking the deatils tab. I then clicked the + button , then found safari from the list of apps.

Had to set Always as the option for manage imported prefrences and then clciked add.

You then get a safari optio appear in the details page. Select it and then click the button at the bottom that looks like a pencil.

There will be an entry on the next page with an orange arrow. Click the down arrow to expand the menu.

You will then see the option to set the home page.
