dibekem Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Morning guys. Our DNS server is not working at the moment. The server is running on Windows Server 2016. When I click on the DNS I get The server (name of the server) could not be contacted. The error was: access denied. Would you like to added anyway? Any help would be much appreciated.
Liam Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Host file? C drive have space left? Who’s logged in?
dibekem Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 The domain controller is a Hyper V virtual machine. C drive is fine and I logged in as the administrator. I cant access \\server at all. There is another virtual machine acting as the file server and that is working fine when I try to access it via \\server
dibekem Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 yes users can access the internet but not shares, that could be because we use DFS which is installed on this DC as well and no printer either. Remote access is only working if I type in the DC ip address.
dibekem Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 I restarted the dns services but no luck. Not sure what has changed. Yesterday was fine.
Liam Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Do you get any error codes / checked event viewer? 1
dibekem Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 The DNS server was unable to open Active Directory. This DNS server is configured to obtain and use information from the directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and reload the zone. The event data is the error code. this is what is reporting in event viewer.
Davit2005 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Run a DCDIAG on the DC. Have you more than one DC, if so are these on different hosts.
