Yup, did mine this year. 2008 R2 to 2012 R2, though 2016 would have been fine. Only issue I had was that .NET wasn't at the latest version post upgrade so SIMS wouldn't load (not a problem if you install 2019 or maybe 2016). Installing the latest version fixed it fine.

 

The amount of errors I got because of this! Oh boy... at least when you login it says that it's not on the latest version, but no dot net services work until this is installed.

I just upgraded a 2008 server to 2012, and Server Manager wouldn't even load because it needed a new .net installing, let alone any SIMS software
