Hi All,

I've got a Windows 10 task sequence in which I am using the 'Apply Network Settings' option to complete the domain join.

When running in Windows PE, I have seen that the domain join credentials have been passed through to the unattend.xml file. However, the machine fails to join the domain even though the credentials have domain admin rights.

Can anyone help/advise?

Personally I'd use a restricted account that only has specific permissions to add computers to a specific OU rather than using a Domain Admin account.

As far as the Adding the PC to the domain goes is there any logs on the Domain Controllers? You should also be able to find the deployment logs on the local client.

When the deployment has finished do you get any warnings or errors?

I've not had experience with SCCM TS, only MDT TS.

Check the smsts.log(s) on the OSD system. It should tell you why. My domain joins would not work until I specified an OU. So I made a 'SCCM OSD' OU for it to use.

If it just refuses to work no matter what you can script it.

Are you using USB3 Ethernet adapters, or is the port built into the machine?

I just had a similar issue on some laptops that I was imaging using USB Gigabit Ethernet adapters. The solution was to reboot into Windows, then run a step to pause for 10 seconds (ping 127.0.0.1 -n 10) and then run the Apply Network Settings step. This gives Windows enough time to sort it’s life out before doing the domain join.

Complete stab in the dark though :)
