LeMarchand Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 It had to happen... my first bricked laptop with an M.2 SSD rather than a 2.5" SATA SSD. Teacher (or, according to them, a pupil) spilled a mug of tea over it and told me days later. Disassembly involved prising the bottom cover off with the standard breakage of some of the small plastic clips, so I'm reluctant to swap the drive into one of the same model laptops - especially as the drive appears to have been for a dunk. I'll probably have to pay for an adapter (I figure there will be usage for it with friends/family as more drives are like this), so the cheaper the better. Drive is a Samsung mznlf128hchp-000h1 which, as far as I can tell, is B+M one (it has two notches) and a 2280 size drive. However there seems to be a load of stuff about PCI-E and NVMe drives. HTCPCP Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Yeah, I think mine was around £100 to build, but included salvaging a processor, HDD, RAM and case from other devices that were on the scrap pile, but gave me a machine off network to scan users media in it, which (if you have a DMZ) is a blessing - all USB sticks/External hard drives/users with suspicious emails go through that machine. Similarly, it's used for most drives that go kaput - sata or M.2. But yeah, can kinda see where you are coming from regarding the price. All depends if you can justify other uses too 1

difinity Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I have one with a SATA connection rather than USB3. No conversion to USB required so native SATA speed and no hokey pokey Chinese electronics to fail and cause possible damage. Much cheaper at £2.17 too, but from China. 1
